This portal offers a vast range of trade information catered for the demands of the importers and exporters in the SAARC region. Information and services offered in this portal is served by a network of leading public and private sector trade institutions from the eight SAARC countries

Organizational Structure

The project follows a multi-level approach; it intervenes mainly on the meso-level (support of the SAARC-TPN and its members) but also covers the linkage between the meso- and the macro-level (co-operation between the SAARC-TPN and the SAARC-Secretariat) as well between the meso- and the micro-level (co-operation between member organisations of the SAARC-TPN and individual enterprises).

For steering and implementation of the SAARC-TPN at the regional level the Advisory Committee (AC) which comprises of SAARC Presidency, representatives of SAARC Secretariat, German Governement, SAARC-TPN private sector member and GIZ support programme to SAARC-TPN. This is the highest advisory body of the SAARC-TPN and functions as the Steering Committee of the network.

At the operational level there are 4 thematic working groups created in the areas of Human Capacity Development (WG-HCD), Quality Infrastructure (WG-QI), Regional Trade Facilitation (WG-RTF) and Small and Medium Enterprises (WG-SME). Each working group is headed by an elected Spokesperson and the member organizations plan and implement collective activities.

  • WG-HCD aims the enhancement of human as well as institutional capacities of all the TPN members, training providers and stakeholders
  • WG-QI emphasizes on building capacity of QI institutions of the region as well as focusses to highlight the importance of quality infrastructure as a major trade issue.
  • WG-RTF promotes new approaches of trade facilitation to promote intra-regional trade. It focusses on the identification, monitoring and policy lobby and advocacy efforts to reduce NTMs.
  • WG-SME aims at promotion of SMEs in the region to explore business opportunities by focusing on the promotion of regional value chains as well as strengthening the SMEs through match-making initiatives. Promotion of women SMEs is also a core area.

The Spokespersons of the 4 working groups form the Operations Committee - Support Team (OC-ST) which bridges between the AC and the OC.

At national level of all eight SAARC member states, SAARC-TPN member organisations promote the ideas and innovations of the SAARC-TPN. The GIZ Project Office in Kathmandu functions as the SAARC-TPN Secretariat.
